China’s Gaokao is the world’s toughest college entrance exam. In 2025, 13.35 million students took the test. Only about 0.1% of them were accepted into universities. This is much harder than India’s JEE exam.
The Gaokao tests students on a very wide range of subjects. Students must study for many years to prepare. The exam is very stressful, with high pressure from families and society.
Compared to India’s JEE, Gaokao requires even more endurance and knowledge. Students must master a broad syllabus and face intense national pressure.
